Therapies
The Institute for Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness ,P.A. provides a full complement of rehabilitative wellness services. A brief description of each follows.

Initial Consultations:
Each client undergoes a thorough consultation at the initial visit. At the conclusion of the consultation, findings are shared with the client and a comprehensive written report is provided.

Free 1 Year Subscription to WellnessWay:
A complimentary 1 year subscription to WellnessWay accompanies each initial evaluation(e-mail address required). Topics include proper use of therapeutic exercise in rehabilitation, methods preventing back strains and other overuse injuries and nutritional topics for optimal health.

Spine Rehabilitation/Body Mechanics Training:
Each client under care for spine rehabilitation, receives a comprehensive assessment of vocational and recreational activities with training in how to correct faulty habits and preform work and play in a safe and efficient manner. Training includes theory and hands on lab sessions to facilitate learning and is supported by the institute's other therapies.

Postural Training:
The Institute considers posture to be a key area of assessment when designing a wellness program. Efficient posture allows the musculoskeletal system to stabilize the indiviual over his base of support and move purposefully against gravity to reach a desired end with minimal energy expenditure. Through postural training, the client relearns efficient positioning and movement patterns.

Indiviualized Therapeutic Exercise Programs:
Each Institute client receives a carefully tailored therapeutic exercise program. The Institute utilizes the Norwegian approach to therapeutic exercise developed by Oddvar Holten and further developed by fellow Norwegian Ola Grimsby. This approach utilizes the optimal number of repetitions,

resistance, type and speed of muscle contraction for optimal rehabilitative results.

Neuromuscular Reeducation:
Neuromuscular Reeducation refers to retraining the neuromuscular system to move efficiently so that optimal balance, coordination and strength is obtained. This reeducation of the neuromuscular system is achieved by establishing new neural pathways by repetitively taking the client through efficient movement patterns. The Institute uses a eclectic approach to re-establish optimal neuromuscular performance. Approaches include work from Ida Rolf,Judith Aston,Maggie Knott,Mosha Feldenkrais and Gregory Johnson.

Joint Manipulation:
Often confused with a heavy handed joint "cracking", the techniques utilized by the Institute are safe, gentle and, most importantly, effective in restoring normal joint mechanics. Methods utilized are highly specific to the targeted joint(s) and include muscle energy, New Zealand and osteopathic methods. Joint manipulation is often used in combination with the institute's other therapies.

Soft Tissue Mobilization:
Soft tissue mobilization is a treatment approach where the goal is to restore optimal mobility to the soft tissues (as opposed to hard tissue ie.,bone) through the use of a blend of treatment approaches. These approaches free adhesions between the muscle belly and its sheath, allowing more efficient muscle expansion (contraction) and elongation ("stretching"). Approaches from Ida Rolf,Judith Aston and Maggie Knott are utilized. Soft tissue mobilization is often used in conjunction with the institute's other therapies.

Seminars:
Staff are available to speak before your club or organization. As requests for speaking engagements may be high, ample advanced notice is recommended.
